Birmingham Ala. - September 8, 2008 – Arrington Middle and Davis Middle School students and teachers will join the thousands who have toured C-SPAN’s Campaign 2008 Bus when the bus rolls into town on September 10th and 11th.
Bright House Networks and C-SPAN, the political network of record, partnered in July to bring 25 middle and high school teachers to Washington, DC for Campaign Classroom Conference. Educators taking part in the conference were exposed to innovative classroom instruction methods using C-SPAN resources, allowing each participant the opportunity to enhance lesson planning in their classrooms (to teach about the 2008 Presidential election using C-SPAN resources). Bright House Networks is proud to bring C-SPAN's Campaign 2008 Bus to these teachers' schools as part of the Campaign Classroom tour.
The 45-foot mobile production studio is on the campaign trail to promote and enhance C-SPAN’s comprehensive political coverage, traveling to major political events such as candidate debates and speeches in early primary states, touring state capitals, and also conducting educational programs for teachers and students. Since its January, 2007, launch, the bus has been to 43 state capitals, 136 universities and 213 schools where 408 elected officials, 5,500 teachers, 40,600 students, and four presidential candidates have been on board.
During the Tour, C-SPAN’s education team will hold free teacher workshops and tours of the bus for student groups.
“We’re thrilled to bring the bus to Birmingham in recognition of the teachers who participated in our July conference,” said Heath Neiderer, C-SPAN Marketing Representative. “During this historic election year, we’re excited to offer a variety of resources for educators, students and the general public as part of our extensive coverage of the 2008 presidential elections.”
“We are delighted to host the C-SPAN Campaign Bus and educational experience during this very important Presidential campaign” states Karen Broach, Division President - Bright House Networks Birmingham. “We have just witnessed history being made at both the Democratic and Republican Conventions. The students and teachers that tour the C-SPAN Campaign Bus will get an opportunity to see a lot of the behind-the-scene work that made those two conventions successful.”
A revamped version of the network’s award-winning School Bus, the Campaign 2008 bus, sports a new exterior design wrapped in election themes along with interior modifications that include the latest television production equipment.
